A quote I’m loving & living by:
“Do not be afraid of slow moments.”
yung pueblo
Being afraid of slow moments is how I lived my life for the longest time. At the time I didn’t realize I was afraid of these moments. And while I prided myself on my ability to be alone, I actually feared it. So instead, I chased plans, activities, and a sense of fulfillment, but what I’ve been slowly understanding and learning is that slow moments create space. Space is the only opportunity we have for something new, something wonderful, and something unexpected. It is in these opportunities that the greatest fulfillment (of the moment anyways) lies.
I am just on the precipice of understanding what it means to just be, but so far, I am loving it.
But, where to start, where to begin.
There’s just so much to be excited about right now; so many things to learn & love.
I’m truly obsessed
If I’m honest about what I’m loving and obsessing over it’s/he’s The Politician on Netflix/Ben Platt. I’m beyond obsessed. I think my friends are about to stage an intervention. The Politician is Ryan Murphy’s (creator of Glee & American Horror Story) Netflix debut. It’s an electoral satire with Ben Platt leading the charge as Payton Hobart – a privileged, sociopath, you can’t help but love and none other than GP (Gwyneth Paltrow) as his mom. There were mixed reviews, but I thought it was hysterical and wish the second season would start immediately.
Ben rose to fame during his time in Dear Evan Hansen, so…yes, if you were wondering, I went down a big Ben Platt wormhole and know all of the words to all of the Dear Evan Hansen songs, his EP that was released on 10/22, and his debut solo album. Yikes. I’m a little scared of myself! But I truly feel that Ben Platt is a ray of light. Listen to him on Armchair Expert if you need proof.
There were common themes from both Dear Evan Hansen and The Politician that resonated — people trying to find their way. People feeling alone. And the importance of mental health. I got pretty emotional listening to some of the lyrics, and it inspired me to get started on a project that I’ve been thinking about — more to come soon.
In the World
On another note…crazy things happening in the world…will President Trump get impeached? If you don’t watch the news (like me) or listen to a morning update podcast, or read any news at all, one of my favorite ways to get new information is through the New York Times briefings. They have a morning, evening, and weekend briefing. They’re full of digestible information, and they’ve been releasing a special one on the impeachment process.
On Instagram
Also…did you hear…Jennifer Aniston joined Instagram. Yup, everything the world has been waiting for. I found out in a post by Reese Witherspoon and was PRETTY excited. I’ve been watching Friends since it started. For a short period of time, we weren’t allowed to watch it because they “talked about sex too much” but that didn’t last long. I’ve seen every season multiple times through and have been a long-time Jen. As you’ll see on her Insta, her friends call her Jen…so….Jen it is.
Chew on this
If you listened to the episode of my podcast with Dr. Sue, you know that I experience pretty awful digestive issues. TMI, but I will go 4-5 days without going to the bathroom sometimes. NOT OK. I’m heading to Parsley Health on Friday to get more blood work done and test extensive panels and biomarkers to try to figure this out once and for all. I’ll give you an update once I’ve done that on my experience.
In the meantime, acupuncture has been a saving grace for me. Part of acupuncture includes food recommendations. Traditional Chinese Medicine focuses on grounding and warming foods. This means saying goodbye to raw salads, smoothies, and juices and welcoming more cooked veggies, soups, and even grains (which I love).
So I’ve been making big bowls that look something like this. Delicious. Nutritious. Hearty. And satisfying. YUM!
And I can’t wait to make a big batch of kitchari.
But I always crave something sweet and love when I have these balls on hand — or these ones from my friend Nina.
NEW ON THE PODCAST!
You may already know that I admire Kelly Ripa. I want her job 😉 When I ran into her trainer Anna Kaiser on the UWS, I knew that she had to be on my podcast. Click here to learn more about Anna Kaiser and how she created the fun AND effective dance-based cardio workout AKT …and how she landed clients like Kelly, Karlie Kloss, SJP, and Shakira.
