**What I’m loving & learning is a series where I share all of the things I’m, you guessed it, loving and learning in the past week. It’s really a sneak peek into how I spend my time, and is a fun way for me to reflect. I have a pretty wide variety of likes and interests, so shoot me an email or drop me a DM if there’s something specific you’d like to see or know.**
This week was really heavy. It feels like there is so much wrong with the world. Amid an already difficult time, Mm heart and mind are defeated as I watch violence, ignorance and hatred throughout our society. It is a reminder how much work we have left to do, how I want to show up and be in the world, and that we can start by taking a step inward to examine ourselves and our beliefs. While it is easy to sit in cynicism and negativity, as I watch so many stand in solidarity and take action to make change I do believe that change is possible. But we must do it together.
This week’s what I’m loving and learning includes some of the resources that I found and will be using to learn more about how to be a good ally to POC and play a role in creating change. While you may not feel like you can make a change. You can. We can.
Making Change & Learning How to Be a Good Ally
- I admired Blair for posting this about honestly calling her out. It inspired me to find a way to use my voice even though I was nervous.
- “For Our White Friends Who Want to be Allies” on Sojourners
- Sweetgreen provided a bunch of great resources for those who want to understand more about race & racism
- What to Read, What to Watch...comprehensive doc
- How to Be Anti Racist
FOOD
I’ve been breaking my rules of going to the grocery store once a week. No excuses – just got a bit lazy, and the once a week trip takes soo much time out of my Sundays which I try to use for relaxation. Nothing crazy going on meal-wise, but I know you guys were interested in more food-type stuff! My digestion has been REALLY bad. You can learn about some of my digestive issues in my podcast episode with Dr. Sue, but I’ve struggled for so LONG and it’s really frustrating and causes so much overthinking. In an effort to just feel better, I’ve been working to decrease stress and eat simply. Next step…eat earlier!
- Snack: Lesser Evil Popcorn
- Inspo: Minimalist Baker – all these recipes…YUM
- Banana Bread: definitely making this s*&T for the week.
- “Fried Rice” – I made this up. I put coconut oil in a pan, add white rice, veggies, protein wait until it’s warm, crack an egg over it and add coconut aminos. Easy peasy, dinner is done!
- AWG Gluten-Free Bread – I eat GF most of the time because of autoimmune markers and wheat sensitivities and I am dying to try this one.
- I also love anything salty and crunch and have been housing these Hu kitchen crackers.
ENTERTAINMENT – PODCASTS, BOOKS, SHOWS
- Adam Grant, Adam Grant, Adam Grant. If you don’t know him…get to know him. If you have struggled at work…get to know him. If you want to see a good human…get to know him. There’s no reason not to know his work. It’s so impactful and has helped me in so many ways.
- Filthy Rich – Jeff Epstein doc...you guys…this is disturbing and crazy but very well done
- Just Go with It – an oldie but a goodie – I love this movie!
- There’s a Needle For That – Acupuncture Podcast with my acupuncturist Erika Freed
- The New York Times is my source of truth – I probably need to diversify, but I love it. Everything from food to op-ed and of course the hard-hitting stuff
- How to be Less Critical Of Yourself by Camille Styles
MOVE
I can’t stress enough how much of a positive impact has. You can move in any way that feels good to you – listen to your body and just get going. The benefits for your long-term and short-term health (not just the way we look) is significant.
- Still doing these functional workouts a lot…I think these two are so cute. They also make delicious-looking bowls
- Melissa Wood – looks simple but don’t be fooled!
