First things first…Happy Canada Day! I totally forgot to say this yesterday as we celebrated my home and native land’s bday. I got my US Citizenship 4 years ago, but I am still SO proud to be Canadian and have that as my heritage. I’d never thought much how that heritage relates to who I am until recently when I listened to an episode of Arm Chair Expert with Alanis Morisette. It just made me think about how that has shaped who I am, how I act, and what I value.
As we head into the holiday weekend, I’m looking forward to unplugging and spending some screen-free time with my friends.
I finally escaped New York/Brooklyn and have been enjoying the fresh air, company, and the ability to walk out the front door onto a patio. There’s something about this small joy of instant access to fresh air that makes me feel so grateful for this time away with my friends.
This is a silver lining of COVID…spending two weeks with people I usually have to cram a visit into 2-3 days, which is never enough.
I’ve found that time, a concept I tend to have a difficult relationship with has slowed down a bit since I arrived. I could attribute that to a lot of things, but it really emphasizes the impact of our physical space and environment on our mindset. I’ll dive more into this later, but since I skipped this week’s interview podcast, I thought I’d share a few of my favorite shows both my own and others along with some of the other things I’ll be using to celebrate this weekend.

OTHER STUFF I’M LOVING
READ – Normal People – this book was so, so good
If you’ve ever had a love you just can’t shake, this book is for you. Heartbreaking and captivating, it will keep up turning page after page.
READ – Jessica Simpson’s Open Book
I didn’t know I loved Jessica Simpson. She’s open, raw, and vulnerable in her memoir. Plus, juicy details on Nick, newlyweds, and John Mayer.
WATCH – I’ve been wanting to see The Hate U Give
EAT SNACK – Bulletproof Protein Bars vanilla shortbread & chocolate fudge flavors
Perhaps an acquired taste, but I’m addicted to these things! They’re a great snack and keep me full for hours. Perfect to tide me over from dinner.
EAT TREATS – Perfect Bar Peanut Butter Cups
I love Perfect Bar & I love peanut butter & I love chocolate…so what’s not to love here? The only problem is they have to be refrigerated.
EAT – daying to make this fig & burrata salad – pictured above
This is one of my FAVORITE Summer salads. Each year when I go to Cape Cod, we make a version of this. It feels kinda fancy but it’s so easy. Another good combo is peaches with burrata, basic, and balsamic glaze.
DRINK – Matcha
For some reason, I’ve been really craving matcha! I just ordered some on Amazon along with some stevia. I’m excited to try it as a latte with some collagen peptides. I’ll keep you posted how it goes.
MOVE – lots of walks, a few runs, & Melissa Wood Health
Enjoy the long weekend. Unplug. Love on the people you’re with.
